White crystalline powder. Turns yellow when heated and turns white when cooled. Odorless. Melting point 655℃. Boiling point 1425℃. Sublimes when heated to 400℃ in high vacuum. Soluble in sodium hydroxide solution, hot tartaric acid solution, hydrogen tartrate solution and sodium sulfide solution, slightly soluble in water, dilute nitric acid and dilute sulfuric acid. Relative density 5.67
Application introduction
Used as catalyst, mordant, fabric, paper, plastic flame retardant, glass decolorizer. Used to prepare potassium antimony tartrate, glaze, fire retardant. Manufacture of lead softener.
Antimony trioxide is the earliest flame retardant, suitable for epoxy resin, polyurethane, chloroprene rubber, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyester, etc. When used alone, the dosage is large and the flame retardant effect is poor (unless the flame retardant contains halogen). When used in combination with halogenated compounds (R.HX), there is a good synergistic effect and the flame retardant effect is significantly improved.
Antimony trioxide is an additive flame retardant, often used in combination with other flame retardants and smoke suppressants, and a synergistic effect can be produced between the components. Antimony trioxide first melts at the beginning of combustion, forming a protective film on the surface of the material to isolate the air, and reduces the combustion temperature through internal endothermic reactions. Antimony trioxide is vaporized at high temperatures, diluting the oxygen concentration in the air, thereby playing a flame retardant role.

Main uses

1. Used as a flame retardant for various resins, synthetic rubber, canvas, paper, coatings, etc., and a catalyst for petrochemicals and synthetic fibers. Used to make mordants and opacifiers, and is a raw material for synthetic antimony salts. Used as an additive in the enamel industry to increase the opacity and surface gloss of enamel. Used as a decolorizer to replace arsenic acid in the glass industry. Medicine, metallurgy, military industry, etc.
